YouTube Music Users Can Now Customize Playlist Covers with AI-Generated Art.

  • YouTube Music allows users to customize playlist cover art using AI.
  • The AI art feature is initially available for English-language users in the US.
  • The update is part of a series of improvements to YouTube Music, including a "speed dial" feature for quick access to favorite songs.

October 25, 2023: YouTube Music has launched a new feature that lets users make custom cover art for their playlists with the help of artificial intelligence (AI). Instead of uploading your own pictures, you can now tap into AI to create unique artwork.

To get started, all you have to do is click on the pen icon in the bottom right corner of your existing playlist’s cover. A range of categories will appear for you to select from, like animals, food and drinks, colors, nature, and travel.

After selecting a category, users can either hit “randomize” or pick from different prompts. For example, you could ask the AI to create art that features a pug “in the style of a Medieval Gothic painting.”

The AI then shows you five different options, and once you choose one and hit “save,” that art becomes the new cover of your playlist.

As of now, this AI art feature is only available to users in the United States who use the English-language version of the app.

But YouTube Music says to “stay tuned for expansion to other regions and languages globally.” Before this update, the app would automatically make a cover by combining the art from the first four songs in your playlist.

This new feature allows for more personalization.

That’s not all YouTube Music has been up to. The service is also rolling out several other features. One is a “speed dial” option that will display your most-listened-to songs right on your homepage.

This feature is set to arrive in the coming months. These changes are part of YouTube Music’s larger plan to enhance its service. Earlier this year, the app added the ability to create custom radio stations and introduced a TikTok-like Samples feature.

It even added a comments section to songs to make it more competitive with Spotify, which has been gaining more active users.

According to YouTube, this new AI art feature will capture the feel of your playlist even if you can’t use your own images. It’s a creative way to make your playlist stand out and it shows how AI can be used in everyday apps to make them better.
