September 30, 2023: Trevor Jones, a renowned crypto artist from Scotland, has significantly impacted the fight against cancer. Through an art exhibition and auction in Edinburgh, he raised almost $140,000 (114,000 British pounds) using nonfungible tokens (NFTs).

This generous sum was donated to Maggie’s Edinburgh, an institution known for offering free cancer treatments.

The event, named the Web3 Castle Party, was held near Paris at Château de Vallery.

It wasn’t just any fundraiser; this occasion marked the highest single donation Maggie’s Edinburgh has received from an art event in its 27 years of service.

A representative from Maggie’s expressed gratitude, emphasizing the vital role of the NFT art community in this achievement.

The funds collected will have a direct impact, assisting around 4,000 individuals affected by cancer. This extends not just to the patients, but also to their families, providing the essential support they desperately need.

In reflection of the achievement, Jones mentioned, “The funds raised (from NFT artists) will make a huge difference and will go to support services for those affected by a cancer diagnosis — patients and their families. This is a wonderful way to remember such a beloved artist, also taken by this disease.”

This isn’t the first time NFTs have been utilized for a noble cause. Since their rise in popularity in 2021, the NFT community has been actively involved in several charitable endeavors.

They’ve supported various causes, including mental health and aid organizations like the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Even major brands, including Coca-Cola, the Singapore Red Cross, and government entities, have recognized the potential of NFTs and cryptocurrencies in fundraising for humanitarian projects.

Apart from this, in the recent podcast with Lex Fridman, Mark Zuckerberg revealed a new Metaverse like podcasting experience.
